Summertime Family Fun

Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day are marked by around-the-nation patriotic displays. To me, these holidays are American flags, kids’ bike parades, picnics with watermelon, beach barbeques, red-and-white gingham tablecloths and the sights and sounds of colorful fireworks —always with family.

Every summer I transform my house (both indoors and out) to reflect Americana. It’s as easy as adding red, white and blue bunting onto fences, porch rails and balconies; placing U.S. flags and red, white and/or blue bows into plants; using a blue denim tablecloth (completing the look with red and white stars of all sizes) and potting red and white geraniums in galvanized tin buckets. The best part: The look is good all season long!
